Recent Developments

In October 2025, the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that Gauteng bookmakers cannot offer fixed-odds bets on casino games such as roulette. This landmark Portapa/Supabets decision confirmed that bookmaker licences are limited to sporting events under Gauteng's Gambling Act.
